So I just recently moved and didn't have internet connection for a while... and I watched an animated movie Wall-E with my sis and dad. My original plan was to just watch it for entertainment, but I just couldn't resist not noticing the techniques and features and etc. So I quickly grabbed my notebook and started taking notes as I was watching...I guess after taking this class, I'll never be able to not notice and not think about all these stuff :P

Wall-E is a cleaning robot that is left alone on Earth. The setting of the movie is near future and people left Earth to other planets because of too much amount of trash and wastes on Earth. The movie starts with the images of the buildings that resemble the ones in Manhattan. Wall-E built them by himself, which shows how long Wall-E has been alone on Earth by himself.
Wall-E is very lonely and wants a companion. He watches an old video from probably around 70's and dances along the music. He brings his hands together as though he was holding his hand with someone when he sees a couple holding their hands in a movie. Wall-E's pure point of view is shown throughout the movie, but especially in a scene where he cleans and gathers the ''useful" stuff for himself. When he found a diamond ring in a plain blue case in the dumping ground, Wall-E, unlike how many people would have chosen, threw away the ring and was more interested in the case.
In this movie there were humor in trivial actions of the robot. For example, my sis, dad and I laughed when Wall-E put a rock on his head to hide himself from the big UFO. I also noticed the part where the movie is playing and when it is the guy's part, the screen is focused on Wall-E and when it's the girl's part, the screen is focused nad zoomed on Eve.
More than anything, I felt like this movie was a warning to the viewers and everyone on this planet. This movie signifies how irresponsible people are. The earth is abundunt with trash and waste that people used and even outside the atmosphere, massive amount of trash has clogged the Earth. Instead of coming up with plans to clean the earth, people are travelling around the space in a gigantic rocket ship doing nothing but sitting and eating. Also, because of the advance in technology, it is so easy for people to get what they want without having to move around. The people in the movie are portrayed as fat and lazy: they can't even get up by themselves if they fall off from their essential flying chair and need to wait for help robots to come escort them back up to the chair. Technical advances look like it's giving and saving more time by making everything short and simple; however, it has actually trapped and ruined people's lives, and it is even controlling their lives. People are so cooped up with the monitor right in front of them, they do not know what else is around them. For example, when the system was out of order and people finally got to see what was around them, people sitting right by the pool said "I didn't know we had a pool!"
Wall-E brought life back to people. He motivated the captain of the rocket ship to go back to Earth. "Auto" Pilot, a pilot robotic program, symbolizes the disadvantages of advanced technology can have on people's lifes--people can be controlled by what they inventes (like in I, Robot as well). There were many important (hidden) messages in this movie (although it seemed like a children's animation), but the one that I liked the most was : the physical appearance--or in other words, what's on the outside does not matter. It is what's on the inside that will make the world change. Wall-E was just an old rusty cleaning robot, but his pure and genuine heart cleaned not just the Earth itself but the hearts of people as well.
