Wow. Today was a big day. I went on a field trip from my Hebrew class to Ellis Island, then in the afternoon, I celebrated my friend's bday party with my best friends. After a big fiesta @ Applebee's, We went to Loews Theater @ Bay Terrace to see Twilight--the movie (originally a book) that has excited a plethora of people regardless of their age and brought a new sensational fantasy of romance. To my shame (and my friends were chiding me for this), I have not read the book yet, but after seeing the movie, I was motivated more than anything to start reading the book.

The movie was awesome. But my habit--yes, it has become a "habit" now--of thinking about the cinematic, literary and dramatic parts about the movie has kept me from fully enjoying the movie in the beginning. Eventually I was drawn deeply into the movie by the literary elements within the film; however, in the beginning, I was no different from a skeptical movie critic.

This movie was based on the first book, Twilight, of Stephenie Meyer's book series. The basic premise of the whole plot is a girl who does not follow the typical trend like other girls meets a guy, who later she finds out to be a vampire, in a new environment, falls deeply in "unconditional, irrevocable love" with him, and desires to become a vampire like him.

So in the beginning of the movie, it starts with a deer running around in the forest, running away and escaping from her followers along with a narration of the main female character. I immediately assumed the deer to be the main female character being followed by some vampires, and later in the movie, this part was shown again and my assumption was proven correct :]

I remember when the good vampire family first walked into the cafeteria; they are secluded (or purposely excluded themselves) from everyone and only hang around by themselves. Nonetheless, they looked so cool; their presence in the cafe just illuminated everything around them. *Funny thing: Bella's new friend described one of the vampires as "always looking like he's in pain" and later it is revealed that he just recently became a "vegetarian (as in, only thriving on animals and not humans)" so it'd make sense for him to look painful to walk around in a place where so many people--prey--are.
Overall, I think the movie was awesome. It had some good thrilling shots, and above all, it drew the audience in (although we cannot disregard the fact that the original novel had been too popular). Some people say the acting was horrible--yes, it was quite awkward at some points, but it wasn't that bad to the point where it ruined the entire movie for me. Or maybe I'm just biased. :P They're already beginning to shoot the second sequeal of the series and I just can't wait to see the next time! In the mean time, I will finally begin reading the first book of the series. (I'm gonna try not to read the second one...although it may be quite hard to resist the desire xP)
