Director : James McTeigue
ratings: ***** AWESOME!
I heard a lot from people around me talking about this movie, and I wanted to watch too but never actually got a chance. So when Renee nominated this movie, I was set on my decision even before I heard other nominations and descriptions.
Indeed, the art of this film (get the pun?) was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! Awesome plot, awesome techniques, awesome themes...just awesome movie itself. I was absolutely drawn into the movie as soon as we started watching the very first scene.
The basic plot was about a guy named V with a smiley mask and mysterious atmospheric black clothes (basically the physical appearance for him throughout the movie--he never shows his face) being hurt by and mad at the tyrant/dictatorial government and their clandestine dirty actions. V tries to bring "justice" and says he is using "violence for good". I say I disagree! Violence does not promote any good deeds or whatever V wanted to bring; violence only brees more violence, V! Like how the country turned into turmoil and chaos after being inspired by V.
Anyway, there were quite a lot of coincidences and repetitions in the movie. For ex: both V and Evy's boss (i forget ppl's names...) cooked breakfast (the same kind) for Evy and the angle was bird-eye's view for both. This shows that V is actually not so much different from other "normal" people and that other people also have the similar, if not the same, desire as V; it's just that V is acting it out. This idea is further developed by the boss showing Evy his "secret chamber" of his secret desire. Another repetition occurs when the boss gets captured by the government at night because of the humours insult he made in his show: Evy is hiding under the bed like how she was when her mother was taken away in her childhood; the boss gets his face covered by a sack like Evy's mom and is taken away to somewhere where they would torture, and perhaps kill him.
Everything in the movie was so thoroughly explained with such details; however, there was one unclear thing that made me wonder. When Evy was taken away to the "prison" that V created and found a letter from another person who supposedly dwelled in that same prison chamber...if that prison was not the prison that V was at, which later was burned, how did the letter get there? Because V said he did not put it there...o.O That question remained unanswered throughout the movie...
O, another cool thing I noticed: when V was "released" from the prison, fire was surrounding him, but when Evy came out of her prison, she was surrounded by rain. Fire = Hatred and Detestation; Rain = Purification and Cleansing. Just a thought.
V for Vendetta...awesome film.
